how much is awac licence

neil p
hi all first post as I'm usually an avid sea angler but getting to disheartened with it with all the gillnets appearing round hoyle bank and moreton area so some of the best bass fishing in the area is being killed off so bought myself a cheap 7m elasticated pole and some pole rigs and few other beginner bits to have a go at some local pond fishing ,i have done a fair bit of piking both deadbaits and lures in rivers but as for other course fish i'm a complete noddy so where can i obtain a licence for awac (already have my rod licence)and how much are they and what are the best tactics to bag a barbel at birkenhead park too, sorry about the million questions but a bit keen .

Hi Neil,

Welcome to the forum!

The AWAC licence is about £10 for the year.

you can get them from the big coffee shop at birkenhead park or I'm lead to believe you can get them from local tackle shops.

As for the barbel I would think a ncie fishmeal based groundbait along with pellets over the top should bring them in but I have only fished BH park once and I didnt catch any barbel, mainly tench, roach, rudd etc.

If Barbel are your quarry however you could try lingmere in moreton as they have a very good stock of them going up to around 7lb on the match lake and they fight like demons!

Nice block of luncheon meat/spam down the side should get these out just make sure your gear is up to it!

Hope this helps and tight lines!

well done Neil! Sounds like you had a good time.

I would definitely recommend lingmere, its a cracking couple of lakes but just to let you know they usually have matches on the top lake on the weekend so no pleasure fishing is allowed on that lake and the bigger lake fills up quickly so you either need to book or get there early on the weekend.

The match lake is the one for the barbel by the way!

tight lines,

There used to be barbel in the leisure lake years ago, unless they moved them into the match lake.  Cant wait to fish the match lake in a few weeks now tho!!!  he he!!
