Jun 04, 2011; 11:06am Dave Mac Yew Tree Fishery - It's good to be back fishing!
Hi everyone I've recently replaced the bare minimum of fishing tackle to allow me to do a spot of float fishing again after some low life stole the majority of my gear at the back end of last year from my garage. Got some new bits [rod and reel etc] and picked up a rod bag and holdall second hand which will keep me going until I get the urge to 'get my own stuff' again. Spotted the forum a few weeks back and never realised how many fisheries there were locally. I'd had a break from fishing for 2-3 years and there were some new places I was unaware of, Yew Tree and Parkfield etc. Some real good info and topics on the forum and, clearly, some bloody good anglers who all seem happy to share their skills and knowledge - good to see. Although I have fished for around 15 years I know that my skills are pretty basic and that my technique is flawed and pretty amateur, although with a basic set up and on a good day when the fish are 'on' I've caught some nice fish [pb's are a 9lb tench and a 16lb carp and I also once caught well in excess of 100lb chub, carp and barbel fishing one of the pier pegs at Milo, Cudmore!]. Ventured out again this week for the first time feeling a bit nervous. Fished Yew Tree on Wednesday and did ok around lunch time with a few 1lb carp and plenty of small perch and silver fish, all of which was welcome. Moreover, I was knocked out by how lovely the fishery is.....clean, green, great pegging, good features [islands and lilypads] and great landscaping.....fell in love with the place really. It's also safe and secure and well managed. Had another crack on Friday, the glorious weather was outperforming my dismal angling efforts and I couldn't get a bite never mind a fish! Had the good fortune to run into Carl [Kingfisher] during the day and he gave up his own time to come and give me an hour or so of his own advice and methods, even totally re-tackling my float, line and shotting pattern etc and educating me as to the need for more sensitivity in my set-up. I probably learned more in 90 minutes than the last ten years......I wasn't even plumbing up right! What a great start to my new [2nd] fishing career, I'll be back next week armed with an insert waggler and less bulk and I'm gonna get me one of those lovely looking tench. I also spent some time talking with Steve in the shop and again he was more than helpful with good advice and info on the fishery. Well done Yew Tree.....great place, great people and great fishing. |

Made nice reading mate, welcome back to fishing.
Similar to myself. Couldn't get me off the banks, 20 years ago but due to family commitments & work means I've been unable to fish regularly for many years. I'm completely out of touch with methods, baits etc. Because most of my fishing was done in the winter leagues, I was used to catching bugger all on hard waters & I've found this forum brilliant for advice. Even though I'm still not fishing, I read it all the time. They're a really helpful bunch. (I still hate carp though!) |
