Where to go?

Ronfish
This post was updated on .
Hi all
First post on this forum
just moved up to the wirral and looking for some fishing
Been fishing for 25 years, used to go match fishing but now a pleasure angler
I was looking for somewhere to just catch a few silvers and maybe a chub or two
Can anyone on the forum point me in the right direction
By the way great web site Steve

Welcome to the forum and the Wirral (A pleasant place to grow-so we are told by our council). Rivers? River Dee and River Mersey is about your limit nearby but thats fishing of the salty variety. A couple of the Local clubs are affiliated to Dee Anglers (if they are still going) with coarse fishing around the Chester area. A lot of the local clubs who have their own waters are also affiliated to the Association Of Wirral Angling Clubs (AWAC)who control the fishing on the Park lakes.
An annual AWAC card is around £12 pa but if you join an affiliated club the fishing on AWAC waters is free.
Port Sunlight Angling  (of which I am NOT a member) have a good selection of ponds but a big membership. My own club (plug) Darlach only has a couple of small unstocked farm ponds with  lots of small fish but 3 sections of the River Severn near Welshpool.
Prince Albert and Warrington Anglers are much bigger with vast amounts of waters still and running all around the north west.
As mentioned by others look around the waters listed on here. Steve has done a great job

Hi Ron and Welcome

There are a few fisheries fishing quite well at the moment

Lingmere pleasure lake should fish ok with a maggot feeder to the island for the chub

Yew Tree big lake, fished with a pole or float for the Ide using red maggot, but you have to feed little and often

Damhead is fishing its head off as just been stocked with 12 " carp and they are still hypo

4 Oaks small lake should fish well for the small carp and good chub, but have not fished it myself lately

As for rivers they are none on the Wirral with fish in, although it is rumoured that carp have been put into the river Fender in Leasowe

Hope this is of some help

If your still stuck, come back

Surely a spelling mistake ! There was plenty of crap in the Fender when i fished it for stickle backs with a worm string and bean cane back in the 70s where the "clean" overflow from Upton sewage works tipped into it. we did see the odd Mersey goldfish in it

It was rumoured that the kids fishing the square on the golf coarse put them in there
How true it is I don't know

it wouldn't surprise me if some daft sods have put fish in the fender from the golfy pond.

as steve said plenty of chub from lingmere on a maggot feeder. some decent sized fish too.

I think Lingmere is more interesting to fish in the winter
All I seem to get in the summer is carp
