Hi all, Despite hurricane winds I couldn't help myself, and today (Monday 7th Feb) I decided to give four oaks a go. Didn't quite realise the severity of the wind till I got out of the car, right next to the small pool called Pete's, but I thought "sod it, I'm here now, I'll give it a bash". Never fished it before, and never fished in wind as strong as that before. No point in a side tray as everything would be blown straight off it. Baits kept on the floor behind my seatbox. Top four was all I could hold and at times even that was like a banana! Started off potting a few micros and maggots in and went about 10" overdepth to try n keep things steady. Had trouble keeping myself steady

nearly blown off my box a few times. Sat for 10 minutes thinking "have I lost the plot?' when all of a sudden my float disappeared and a 6oz rudd made an appearance. I then caught a mix of rudd, roach, perch n gudgeon on double mag over the next 2 hours, about 25 fish in all. Then I caught a good skimmer about 12oz. I thought 'dare I try a pellet', it would probably get blown off the hook. Anyway, I gave it a go and as soon as it hit the bottom the float disappeared and I netted a carp of about a pound. Maybe I hadn't lost the plot after all. Fished pellet for another 2 hours and had another 5 similar sized carp and also half a dozen big skimmers to 1.5lb. Pretty sure that on a better day, with better presentation, I may even improve on this catch. If anyone's looking for a venue to get a few bites you could do worse than give this a go. I have fished the big pit once before in warmer weather. Didn't do too well, pestered by small silvers, although I believe there are some quality fish in there. Anyway, good luck if you venture out this winter, and if you don't, why not?
