Just my luck, possibly be off on Sunday and the weather is turning bandit again. Snow, wind and frost for this weekend, best get some hot air blowers for the Christmas Fish In.
Just got back from Prestwick, Scotland, should have driven up yesterday, but bottled out when I saw the forecast, and went on the train, was a good move as the weather South of Glasgow to the Lake District was a White Out.
Just saw the forcast for tonight and Friday, you would have to be Nanook of the North, or have some Inuit blood in you, to go fishing this weekend.
this weekend sat evening me and my mate are having a small match between me and him at thornton hought club. it will be an evenin session an we are fishing a pit that is stocked with silvers ,tench, perch ,crusians and some carp but we are doing winner is the one who catches most fish not biggest waight.
he is fihing the waggler and i am fishing pole what baits do you think would work best at this time of year, and do you think little an often is the way to feed??
Can't usually go wrong with little & often, Hayden.
However, if there's a good head of perch in there, then maggot will catch you plenty. Loose feed & also some sloppy groundbait usually works well. I used to use some red crumb mixed with yellow kestrel groundbait (don't know if you can still get this). It made a nice orangey coloured cloud & worked a treat on a lake I used to fish in Bolton for big perch. Single red maggot did the trick on the hook & I would shot the float, shirt-button style & catch them on the drop.
If you're match is based on numbers of fish then you might not catch as many on corn & meat.
Hi Haydn. was out last evening roaching and perching. Single or double red was good for the perch. What I would do is NOT whack a load of ground bait in to soon. Fire a couple of maggots in to start with and see how that goes as the fish are feeding quite well in this hot weather on the drop. Found the bigger specimens are generally picking up the scraps on the bottom if you can get down. A large worm or tail of lob worth trying for big ones but not for quantity.
Keep an eye on your friend and if he has groundbaited and catching more then try some also. As in earlier posts too much can kill your swim early on.
After plumbing I just put my bulk shot around the waggler with no shot down the line and then try it with a maggot. this will tell you if fish are feeding on the drop.
PS If you want to change venue we are having a junior match at Damhead lane in the morning or you can fish the evening for £4
