Yes! the Mrs is going shopping on Sunday which means i have the day to myslef and my rod!! . However i have recently moved onto the Woddchurch and have found that Parkfield and Lower Ridge are the closest fisheries to me know and i fancy on giving one of the local ones a go....But since i haven't fished either before i am wondering which one you'd prefer and what style of fishing too? I always prefer to fish on the Float but if its too deep i know thats not too clever haha.....any ideas anyone?? Thanks
Parkfield and Lower Ridge at at the extremes of the Wirral Fisheries, about 25 miles apart, all the other fisheries are between those two, Lower Ridge is on the outskirts of Chester, and Parkfield is in Meols so not sure which one you are near.
However, Lower Ridge I have fished some nice fish in there, I would try on Maggot to start, feeding about 6 maggots every minute to see if any fish are interested, failing that, try small pieces of luncheon meat (about 6mm square) all the fish in there will take meat, I have had 3oz roach take it.
The local expert, and nearly resident member Wend should be able to give you the latest info on how it's fishing.
If you can clarify where you are based I can probably advise further.
Parkfield is around 3 miles from the Woody whereas Lower Ridge is around 12 miles!
However, Parkfield is poor in winter. Lower Ridge is much better in cold weather due to good stocks of ide and roach.
Don't forget that Claremont and Yewtree aren't far from you and even Denhall is closer than Lower Ridge.
right so i should scratch out parkfield, am on the woody near upton side. i always go to Yewtree and just fancied something different....never tried Claremont either... i dunno what to do now really lol
Barnacre is next to the Saughall Massie pub. I had a search on their website & it seems that it's for members only.
If you're based at the Upton end of the Woody, then I'd say that the Moreton waters are nearest to you....the Brick Works & Lingmere.
Claremont is right behind my house & although I've had some okay sessions there, I've never fished it in Winter, so couldn't advise. One end of it is a bit deeper though & I would imagine that to be okay in the colder spells.
Hi B19j4y
Barnacre is a membership fishery at Saughall Massie and very close to you.
Easy to find on the site map, well worth a look at
Will be there myself tomorrow
I am the owner of Barnacre Fishery near Saughall Massie. It is a fishery established for over 20 years and offers excellent quality fishing. We offer a small friendly, peaceful environment. We only allow fishermen who look after the fish, look after the lake, look after the facilities and look after each other. For this reason we are a member only lake. Membership ranges from £19-£36 per month. We also offer a £10 taster day. We are currently setting up a website with Steve Cotterill's help on www.wirralfishing.com which we hope will be live within a few weeks. In the meantime we can be contacted on barnacrewirral@aol.com or 0151 641 0773 or 07753807611. If you are interested in joining I will personally meet you and walk round the lake. best wishes, Russell
