Not a great day.

Fished at Claremont on Tuesday, weather was wet and cold, only caught a couple of silver fish all day.

Thanks for the Post
We get very few from Claremont.
Not the best of days for fishing, well done for getting out there.

Fished it a few times because it's on the estate where I live. Very comfortable fishing, with level concrete slabs on every peg. I suppose the shape is a sort of pear-shape. One end is quite deep & I've never bothered fishing it, but I have heard that it fishes better in the winter. The other end (narrow part of the pear, if you like) has an island in the middle & is perfect for an 11m pole all around. This end is also fairly shallow at around 3-4 ft. Never encountered any weed but reed beds had grown and some decent lily pads, the last time I looked (about a year ago).

Personally, I've never caught any decent sized fish but I know there are some in there, as I quite often chat to the farmer, with him being a family acquaintance. Whenever I've fished it, it's always been a fairly short session but I've managed a decent mixed bag of hand-sized crucians & commons. I remember I did waste a good hour, fishing the pole right across to the island (that's the canal matchman in me!) and discovered I could catch at my feet when it was time to have a fag.

Facilities wise, there's nowt....no toilets or shop, just a bin to dip your net when you arrive. They've laid some gravel for a car park though.

Fished here today on a peg at the bottom end of the pear and had a stinker! not only did i get the car stuck in the mud and had to have people push me out....i caught nothing all day! not even a nibble....However i was not the only one...There was another 6 pegs in use and most fishing with 2 rods each. No one caught a thing....and everyone was using different baits, i was told the sweetcorn is useless there by one guy who says he goes there every week, i asked the bailiff on one of his rounds to collect money and he said he doesn't have a clue whats in there, he was just there to collect the money...Anyway, the weather wasn't even that harsh either....am so gutted!!!
