again no reports for here so thought I would give some details!
I was going to go to Captains Pit for an afternoon but if anything the algae problem has gotten worse and theres was nobody else fishing at all; so I took the hint and lugged my stuff to Liscard Central Park.
There were quite a few people fishing but the wind was a nightmare for the waggler, but I perservered.
fishing about 6" overdepth with corn or pellet on the hook I managed one small carp while being pestered by kids ('oo can I put it back', 'Can I hold it', 'can I have a go on the otehr rod' - all of which got a firm no.)
I caught one small carp and gave up and moved to the other side and started fishing on the pole which soon picked up with a another small carp, a roach about 1/2lb, skimmer about 1 1/2lb and a smaller skimmer.
I was pestered by kids again who started nicking pellets out of my bait box until I finally ran them off; only so much you can take...
So not a bad afternoons fishing on a difficult venue mared by pain in the a*** kids.
Wouldnt recommend!
Cheers!

PS pole fish at your own risk due to other kids razzing round the lake on bikes, eyes in the back of your head needed as well as your head on a swivel...
quite bad algae infestation, only take a couple of bales of barley (or so I hear) to clear it up yet AWAC can't even be bothered to do that!
Thick layer of the stuff on the top of the water which is quite mobile and moves with the wind but then you've got the slightly heavier clumps which are a couple of inches or so down which cover the entire pond.
Real shame, the waters got quite a lot of potential in my view...
I'm not suggesting you do this but the green slimy algae can be skimmed off the top quite easily and removed.
Barley straw can prevent algae forming but it must be placed in the water long before any warm weather.
It isn't an instant cure after algae has formed. It's the rotting processes of the bale of barley straw which prevent algae formation.
Our club has been putting 3 bales in a pool each spring and 3 each autumn continuously since 1992.
But you are correct, with a bit of forethought AWAC could head off most algae problems.
hi Dave E has that worked on your ponds in keeping algae away? What about blanket weed (slimy green stuff) does it work for that? i usually end up just dragging it out with a specially made drag but it would nice to be able to not have to do it.
The application of barley straw mentioned above was recommended by the NRA following a devastating algal bloom which killed thousands of fish. The water turned red due to billions of algae.
We have not had a problem since. We do get the slimy silk weed/algae stuff but it tends to be just in the margins, certainly not big rafts of it.
was talking with a guy in work who fishes here a lot as he lives round the corner, he says awac was cleaning it out a couple of days ago, they took two shopping trolleys out with a few bikes an a safe !!. the awac guy said it was next on the list to be restocked an it will be happening in the next 2 weeks.
