Hoylake Bank for Bass-

fish41
Probably a tadge late in the season  and certainly last for this year but time and tides are right on Saturday for a dawn or dusk venture. Hopefully will try for the dawn couple hours either side of high. A nice onshore surf past week will have churned up the food and hopefully will still be warmish

Hi Fish41,

Not too late for Bass, they are still being caught on plugs on Anglesey, best time of year in my opinion, some real monsters about now!!

Big Squid or fish baits for the big un's, worm for the Schoolies

Best of luck

Dave

Read on another forum that at least one had been caught up under Runcorn bridge in the last couple of weeks.

They say every cloud has a silver lining. Looking out the window and contemplating a pleasant early morning start on Saturday for bass it suddenly dawned on me (excuse the pun) that I would miss Wales v France. Inspired in my youth by the likes of JPR , Bennett, Edwards, Rives, Blanco and the like even as an Englishman how could i miss not only Wales but the flair of French rugby. Wondering, like the likely lads, how i could avoid the score till i got back I set off to dig some lugworm at Leasowe. Imagine my surprise at seeing the sea rather than a beach on which to dig. Surprise turned to delight when i realised i was a week ahead of myself. So God willing its the rugby tomorrow and the Bass next week (thats guaranteed the weather to turn foul)
On a serious note should always double check your tides before setting off.

Aborted digging so popped into Parkfield to view the tackle, speak to the lone angler (small perch and small barbel) and fill some bags with horse muck for the allotment and mushrooms. Think Wales are gonna need some of the magic ones.

Even better news is that should Wales make it- the final is not on Saturday and even before church starts (thank you God!)

Just for you older rugby officinados. This is "The Try"

As Baldie says Wales would be your best bet for a late bass.
Perch Rock at low water is probably your best bet for a fish.

Questioning ones sanity- up at 4:30am and set off walking out into the darkness for the tideline.. Usually fish it before and after dusk so you can see the gullies so trying to read the water just by the white waves. Offshore wind kept the surf down-usually not so good for bass -and thats how it turned out. Lovely to see the dawn breaking over Hoylake. A move along the beach to find some gullies resulted in 4 plump flounders (black lug)as i fished it back down to low water. A beautiful autumn day with only some seals, gulls and flounders for company. Till next year.

Well done! Nice to read of a different sort of fishing day instead of the usual stuff.
I used to fish at Thurstaston when I was a teenager. It was never much good. I remember catching a few flounder and eel.
