I'm off on my hols next week.
5 nights on the Wye at Hereford followed by 2 weeks chasing bass near Padstow.
Can't wait.
Anyone else on a fishing holiday this summer?

Hi Alex, hope you have a great time. Used to have a week at Hereford myself and what a river the Wye is. We based at Hereford and went west to LLangorse lake at Brecon for some bream fishing, then went to Worcester to fish the Severn, Teme, and Warks Avon. Also tons of commercials round Worcester....spoilt for choice. Ahhhh, memories....couldnt do it now, my trolley wouldnt go over the fields   . Not gutted tho' as I now go to Whiteacres twice a year.

Staying not far from Whiteacres at Mother Iveys Bay, but when I go on my annual Cornish jaunt it just has to be the bass every time. Sometimes have a go for the ray, if the weather is right, but surf fishing for bass beats everything hands down.
In Hereford we've managed to get a caravan pitch right on the river bank. I could put the rod out of the bedroom window, but the boss might object.

Thanks Wend, might give it a go if the river is out of sorts.
Remember you mentioning you had a caravan in a previous post.
This place is worth a look if you fancy a go on the river.

Well I won   the free days fishing on Damhead so that will be the first place. Then helping out in kitchens on a childrens camp  in Dorset which will mean a bit of mackerel bashing off Lyme Regis followed by having to gut and cook around 80 mackerel or more for the kids who have caught them. Surviving that- a bass outing off Hoylake and a Brenig trip would be better than decorating

Was on holiday in Lyme Regis a few years ago and met a guy who I think had the best job in the world.
I was on one of those tourist boats, that go around the bay towing a mackerel line for the kids. Got talking to the skipper, who it turned out only did that job for the summer, during the autumn/winter he was a roadie for Ian Gillan (singer with Deep Purple - non rock fans/youngsters) who also owned the boat. He was the most chilled out person I have ever met. Envious? I'll say.

Seen Ian Gillan a few times, live. Also had the privelege of seing Deep Purple at the Empire ain 2006 (minus Ritchie Blackmore). Gillan had a throat infection though & it just wasn't the same.

Wasn't the guy with the tiller, he had very long curly hair, and was a lot slimmer.
Looked more like the guy with the bandana on behind.
Think we were there in 2002 or 03, there all merging into one now. (Too much of the local cider)
Boat was wooden clinker build, had a single mast which he flew pirate flags and suchlike from.
There was a plate on the transom with Gillans name on as the owner.
