Not quite "coarse" fishing but I can make the finer art of fluff chucking pretty coarse. Off to Brenig Friday as its been fishing very well--that said it may just be battered cod in Ruthin chippy on way home.

Hi Fish 41,

Are you on the boats? the bank is dire, only odd fish being caught. have more or less give up on Brenig £17 to fish and you are lucky to catch from the bank after the first two weeks, would rather spend my money joining Rosset and Gresford fly fishing club and fish the Alyn for Brownies and nice Grayling upto 2lb, dont half give a good account of themselves on 3lb tippet and a 7foot 4 weight rod.

Wend,

Have you ever tried Wal Goch, in Nannerch, jut past Mold, nice little water. http://www.walgochfishing.com/

Regards

Dave

Hi B. Going off the bank. Dont have the sea legs for boats. 5 friends went wednesday and landed 55 fish between them from the bank. My friend and I managed 4 but should really have done better as plenty of fish moving -we just had the wrong tactics to start with. Have fished Brenig once or twice a year for last 30 years and like all forms of angling it does have a definite skill and knowledge that increases through listening reading and practice. We had struggled for several hours trying the same methods and flies that had worked on wednesday but nothing. Then a passing angler said he had had 4 on a Dunkeld . We promptly tried that and both had fish in half an hour. The stocking at Brenig has been to put in more smaller fish around 1.5lb mark which helps. It is pricey but its more of an annual pilgrimage for some of us as we love the scenery and the wildness.
Being a bit of an all rounder coarse sea and game I have never really mastered any but have enough in the armoury to usually winkle a few out here and there. Still needing help and direction to land a good carp and barbel though.

Yes Wend agree with Baldie Walgoch is one of the nicest little trout fisheries and it has a toilet although its a hike back up the hill. Last time i fished it (5 years ago)  I struggled using normal finesse of small flies so i put on a minkie lure and stripped it as fast as I could and started taking fish after fish.
