Attending Yew Tree for first time...

JimmyT85
Hello all,

I originally made a thread in the 'Where Are You Going Fishing' section, but seeing as now I know where I am going, I thought I'd post here

So, I'm attending Yew Tree for the first time this Friday, and i'm really looking forward to it. I haven't been fishing for too long (well, not since childhood!), and I've only had about 5/6 outings so far.

I was just wondering if anyone has any tips/secrets for me. I'll either be fishing the open ended feeder, or the waggler, depending on recommendations? I think we'll be heading for the big lake, and Steve has already given me a nice little bait tip of sweetcorn, small meat and some pellets.

The lovely tench on offer is what mainly drew me to Yew Tree, but i've read some great reports about the friendliness, surroundings etc, so that's what really sealed the deal. I'm not going to be picky and target a specific fish or anything, I'll be more than happy with what I catch.

So yeah, think that's all :)

Any help is greatly appreciated!
Cheers

Hi Jimmy,

Welcome to the forum!

I've got to be honest I usually fish the small lake as it sees a lot less pressure. Smaller fish in there but still very good sport on lighter gear. The carp go to about 10lb in there but there are lots up to that figure! All different species in there as well, even seen a few koi topping.

Fishing down the side either to lillies, reads or trees with either a big lump of paste for the bigger stuff or pellet for anything that swims. Maggots will keep you catching all day long and will occasionally pick up some good fish to (had a few 5-7lb'ers on single red with a sz 18 hook).

Feeding is most deffo key so make sure you pack you catty and make sure it can reach where you are fishing, plumb up carefully and cast accurately. Keep the micro pellets going in little and often and that should hold the fish.

Float fishing is the way to go on the smaller lake as you can reach all the features on the float.

But all this is moot if you are going on the big lake, I wouldnt have thought that the fishing would be too much diferent and I do know the bigger fish patrol a drop off at about 4-6m out which I think is all the way around the lake. Drops to about 6-7ft so can be a bit of a challenge on the waggler mind.

casting a method/pellet feeder to one of the islands is bound to score as well.

Now I dont pretend to be an expert on Yew Tree not by any stretch but I have caught fish, its a case of trying out different things and seeing whats works!

Tight Lines!
